Earlier this week I wrote a piece, Shuckin’ and Jivin’, on how many “celebrities” lack morals, values and boundaries. It’s truthfully the only way to reach a certain amount of “success”. I’ve wrote on this in many ways but I want to focus on how the fall of celebrity as a whole is finally in sight.
The exaltation of certain people in our society is dwindling. With social media, we have access to more knowledge than ever before about these “deities” and we are realizing that many of them use their fame for purely selfish reasons. They lack the depth to even begin to empathize with any of our experiences and most refuse to do so.
From mega celebrities not speaking up about the genocide in Gaza to several of our beloved actors signing for these murders to continue, it becomes clearer that they will do anything to remain in the good graces of the rich old White men in power. They will do anything to align themselves to violent Whiteness even if it means disconnecting themselves from those who once worshipped them.
McDonald’s, Starbucks and Disney have shown who they really are and what they truly support despite current and past performative actions and celebrities are doing the same. The illusion that the hoarding of mass fame and wealth can be accomplished without harming others is fading. We are all extremely aware of the disconnect and this will lead to their fall and hopefully a better life for us all.
